Romero Britto

Romero Britto

artist

Romero Britto was born on 6 October 1963 in Recife, Brazil. After moving to Miami, he began his artistic career as a self-taught artist. With his trip to Paris, the artist, who is now internationally known, began to identify himself through his own personal and unmistakable style. Encounters with the works of masters such as Henri Matisse and Pablo Picasso allowed the young Britto to begin to personalise his technique, which the New York Times described as a source of warmth, optimism and love. In particular, the Cubism of the Spanish master will be enriched and reinterpreted by Romero Britto in the motifs that characterise his canvases. From this experience he will develop his iconic and unmistakable style: his works, in fact, are characterised by a refinement of colours and positive vibrations, which, combined together, give life to bold and imaginative motifs. The artist's universe is shaped by the juxtaposition of strong colours, devoid of nuances, which place everything in the foreground, giving life to two-dimensional icons highlighted by strong black outlines.
Britto's works have been exhibited in galleries and museums in over 100 countries, including the Salon de la Société Nationale des Beaux Arts exhibition at the Carrousel du Louvre in 2008 and 2010.  In 2013, Romero Britto became the first living artist to exhibit at the Soumaya Museum in Mexico City. He has created numerous public art installations including the sculpture for London's Hyde Park, the largest in the park's history. Britto was the official artist for the 2010 FIFA World Cup and an ambassador for the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.
