Sphinx blenny (Aidablennius sphynx)

Fish of the Aidablennius genus of the Blenniidae (combtooth blennies) family of the Blenniiformes (blenny) order of the Ovalentaria clade of the Acanthopterygii superorder.

Sphinx blenny (Aidablennius sphynx) was first described in 1836 by the French zoologist and ichthyologist Achille Valenciennes (1794-1865).

It inhabits the coastal zone. It dwells near a stony bottom, overgrown with aquatic vegetation. The maximum recorded length is 8 cm. It feeds on invertebrates and algae.

It is a permanent inhabitant of the Adriatic Sea.
