Rock goby (Gobius paganellus)

Fish of the Gobius genus of the Gobiinae (true gobies) subfamily of the Gobiidae family of the Gobiiformes order of the Percomorpha clade of the Acanthopterygii superorder.

Rock goby (Gobius paganellus) was first described in 1758 by the Swedish naturalist Carl Linnaeus (1707-1778).

It inhabits at depths of up to 15 meters. It occurs near a rocky, sandy and silty bottom overgrown with algae, hiding under the stones. The maximum recorded length is 13 cm. It feeds on crustaceans and polychaetes.

It is a permanent inhabitant of the Adriatic Sea.
