Tsikhlazoma severum - large vysokotely tsikhlida - were very popular with us about 15 - 20 years ago. Then they were called still false diskusa. The real diskus - - to support gentle and whimsical fishes it was difficult, and unpretentious an ersatz-diskusy perfectly felt even in aquariums at beginners. Later, with approach of specific abundance in domestic aquarium husbandry, severuma departed on the second or even on the third plan. What, by the way did not make them less interesting at all.
Diskus, even false, severum it is possible to call an adult tsikhlazoma only with a big stretch - the form of its massive case, strictly speaking, is far from a graceful flat disk. However, at all obvious distinctions this two taxonomical far types have many common features. But the most amusing that severum, probably, and tsikhlazomoy is not.
It is necessary to tell that the sort Cichlasoma in general differs in very unstable systematization. In due time it included many types large and among the southern American tsikhlid of similar morphology which at further classification trials were defined in other childbirth. So occurred also with opened in 1840 severumy. On the main morphological and anatomic features from seemingly closer to Cichlasoma, but some scientists consider these fishes as representatives of the sort Heros (Heros severus). Nevertheless in the majority of editions on aquarium husbandry it is still called as Cichlasoma severum (Heckel, 1840).
So, though the tsikhlazoma severum is also not a fashionable look, these fishes can be recommended safely as very interesting and grateful pets. Quiet, peaceful character and at the same time ability to stand for itself allows to support them in the most various specific communities.
Unpretentiousness to conditions of keeping, ease of cultivation and bright identity of character does these fishes by ideal objects for aquariums neophytes. And those fans to whom only one supervision over fishes suffices will estimate ability of severum to make tactile contact - them it is easily possible to accustom to take a forage from hands and even to give itself to stroke.
