Shordan and Atai are ensembles from the Cheboksary distict of Chuvashia, united by the figure of accordion player Gennady Yakimov.

Shordan represents the culture of mid-lower Chuvash and is based in the village of Koderkasy, where the recording was made. Shordan is the historical name of this area, once there existed Shordan district.

Atai are from from Bolshie Katrasi and sing songs of upper Chuvash. The original Chuvash name of the village is Ataykasi, which comes from the personal name Atai.
