Psalidodon anisitsi – Buenos Aires Tetra

Hyphessobrycon anisitsi – Buenos Aires tetra is a peaceful schooling fish that you can keep in any community aquarium without plants. The only plant that can be used is Javafern. All other plants are eaten. You can set up the aquarium with stones and driftwood. The fish needs a lot of free swimming space. If they are not fed properly, they can attack the fins of other fish. A prolonged stay at higher temperatures is better avoided.

This species has been officially described by Carl H. Eigenmann in 1907. A number of synonyms are known: Hyphessobrycon anisitsi, Hemigrammus anisitsi, Hyphessobrycon erythrurus and Hemigrammus caudovittatus.

Origin

South America; Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay.

Diet

This fish is omnivorous but he prefers soft plants.

Breeding Psalidodon anisitsi

Breeding Hyphessobrycon anisitsi – Buenos Aires tetra is easy. Up to 600 eggs are laid and fertilized in a perlon spawning mop. After spawning this mop should be removed to a separate tank. When the young fishes are swimming free you can raise them with baby brine shrimp.
