Yuki

Location: Montreal

Yuki, Malinois, 1.5 year old. Working type

Yuk-Yuka a 100% goofy personality. He is a true lover boy and loves “gucci-gucci” moments with his person. He can spend hours on his back on the sofa as long as there is scratches. Yuki is the perfect dog for an active loner. He is a dog who loves to work and who will find missions if the opportunity presents itself. For this reason, he will need to be caged when left alone so that he does not destroy anything. He loves his cage and also lives very well in an enclosure. His switch off is still to be worked on, but he lives well in the house, but needs to be monitored.

* Yuki is a “stranger danger” Malinois. Yuki is getting better and better, I'm working on him a lot at this level and we have a lot of improvement. He is not a sociable dog to strangers and has a history of biting when a stranger touches him. He tolerates the people around him very well, but is not a fan of unnecessary petting. He is ok with a stranger if he works or plays with him. He must therefore be in a family aware of this and who will continue to work on him. A family without children is privileged, or with sensitized teenager(s)*

For the rest, he is a very smooth Malinois. He is the type of Malinois who loves little grandma walks in the woods. He has a very good recall, currently he is loose on the e-collar and I have no problems. He is ultra zen in the woods and loves water (lab heart). He is not reactive to dogs and is very social/playful. He still has to learn to respect the limits of other dogs, but he is not malicious towards them. He loves car rides and is exemplary. Cohabitation with cats is good, but needs to be monitored. He is ok with small dogs. I believe that this good boy would thrive in a family that wants to do IGP/PSA/detection. He was considered for K9, but the gentleman is too big. I also believe he would be great at any sport. He has a great food drive and play drive. An excellent working dog.

He is exemplary in manipulations, if they are done by his human. Yuki is fundamentally a good boy. He loves spending time with his people and trusts quickly.

Yuki, malinois, 1 an.

Apollo

**Cross-sharing**

Location: Ontario

Apollo is a 23 months old male. He is utd with his vaccines.

He is crate trained but he is currently left loose in the house when away. He has some separation anxiety that will need to be worked on. If you love certain items, you better hide them or he may use them as his new chew toys when you are away... Apollo listens extremely well and is very eager to please. He loves car rides and he is used to being in a crate while travelling. He still needs work on his reactivity towards humans.

He does very well with other dogs, but he has only been around females. He loves to play fetch and going for long hikes. He will need an experience person who had Belgians before and understand their mannerisms. He is true to his breed: hard to trust but when you win him over, he is your friend for life. Apollo will do best with another canine friend, preferably a female.

Titus

***Cross-sharing***

Location: Ontario

Meet Titus! He is a 4 year old Belgian Malinois X (Half German Shepherd). He is a wonderful, loveable, hyper and super sweet boy!

He is well behaved and is highly intelligent. When we received him he was about 1 1/2 and was entirely untrained. With a little bit of diligence he is now a fully trained dog. He is crate trained, leash trained, has good recall, knows many tricks as well as simple commands such as "back-up", "stay" and "crate".

Titus has some minor behavioral issues. When meeting strangers he needs to be properly and calmly introduced and he is highly protective of his yard and pack. Although he has lived with many dogs and has never gotten in any fights with them. He is actually quite gentle with the small dogs he lives with. We have not successfully introduced him to strange dogs. He used to be HIGHLY reactive. With some training he can now tolerate being around strange dogs and has occasionally played with them (with a fence between them). We strongly recommend a dog free house or be willing to continue training.

Titus has started to calm down as he is growing up. He seems to be quite satisfied with some fenced yard time and a short walk a day. But he would definitely keep up if you are a runner, hiker or high energy person. He is incredibly athletic! Able to jump at great heights and run extremely fast. That being said in the house he is a completely different dog. Happy to lounge around on the couch and is definitely a cuddle bug. He is highly dedicated and attached to his caregivers. Often looking for head scratches, paw holding and kisses.

One thing we have not successfully trained him out of is mouthyness. He is quite mouthy with us. Often wanting to "hold our hand" in his mouth around the house. He has never been aggressive towards us or hurt us in doing this and knows what "be gentle" means if he gets a little too excited. He would be a great dog if you had a yard or building needing protection. Titus always makes us feel safe and protected, it's just in his nature. We absolutely love this guy and know he would make the right person very happy!!
He is neutered, up to date on his shots and has no pre-existing health conditions other than food sensitivities. He seems to thrive on an all beef diet with added nutrients from nuts, plain rice, coconut oil and corn.

Stretch

Stretch is a 2 years old neutered boy. He is not super high drive malinois but he still needs plenty of exercise and stimulation. He would be destructive without it.
This lovely boy doesn't have a mean bone in his body. He is good with everyone, very gentle and loves snuggle in the couch.. He is okay with all kind od dogs and will be okay with children. The only aware with children will be that he can be clumsy when he's got zoomies and that fact that he is big. He does well with dog savvy cats but still needs reminders that they are smaller than he is and don't always want to play

He is a thief though and will try to steal stuff toys or socks or blankets and shred them. He needs to be supervised or crated. We believe it can change, probably a bad habit when he was young and didn't have access to anything. Now he knows the Drop command.

Food drive is high, toy is more low. He have been introduce to play with ball and returning it back.

This boy was found stray but he did a lot of improvement with his foster home..

Meet Windu aka Winnie! Winnie is a 7 month old Belgian Malinois x Dutch Shepherd cross. He is neutered and up to date on all vaccinations and flea, tick and lyme.  Winnie is a very sweet boy and absolutely loves his cuddles and belly rubs. You know he loves you when he puts his ears flat back and wags his tail. At 60 lbs small he loves to flop in my lap as I sit on my kitchen floor and put his long muzzle under my arm to get good snuggles. He’s still very much a pup at heart and looks to his person for love and reassurance.

Windu had no socialization for the first 4.5 months of his life and was kept mostly outdoors during the Canadian winter. When I brought him home he was quite fearful, but he has also done really well. He absolutely adores my daughters and I (age 8 and 10) and would do anything to protect us. He takes a while to warm up to anyone new, it is a slow work in progress. He has a great relationship with my nieces and mildly tolerates my sister and anyone else, with the exception of his girls who work at his doggy day school, he adores them too. Winnie does not like men, and has a strong aversion to them. I have worked so hard to try to overcome his fears and reactivity. He has done well, but he needs ongoing, dedicated, daily time and attention to overcome them. He may never warm up to men enough to have them around him full time or even to be patted by them.

Winnie soared through Level 1 obedience and  Level 1 scent detection. He is highly food motivated and significantly less motivated by toys (even frisbee and throwing a ball). He does love playing tug though, and loves to spend an hour chewing a really good, long lasting bone.

He is fully crate trained, but I have never left him for a full day in his crate, he has too much energy, and he goes to “day-school” 3 days/week. The other two days he happily sleeps or chews his bone in my home office while I work. But make no doubt about it, once I’m done working he can’t wait to go on a long walk or on his long leash for a sniffy hike or run. He is at his happiest when we are completely alone in the woods, not on a typical path, but “off road” as I say. He can’t be off leash as his recall isn’t good enough. In the off chance we came across someone that spooked him he is likely to be reactive and may run, bark, and even nip.

Windu is the perfect companion for an active, single woman or female partnership, no children, who wants a dedicated and protective companion. Although he has bonded with and loves my daughters very much, he is very nippy when he gets excited. Most children don’t understand how to manage this, which could lead to a misunderstood “bite”. He is ideal for an experienced Belgian Malinois owner, especially someone with professional experience with the breed who also does scent work/agility/protection training/or most ideally search and rescue due to his love for the woods.

He could belong to a home with one or 2 other larger breed dogs. Because of his socialization at day school and spending a considerable amount of time with my sisters chocolate lab/border collie mix, he is typically great with other large dogs. Amongst his closest friends have been a german shepherd pup, saint bernard, and large labradoodle. When on leash it is best not to let him “greet” other dogs as he is protective of his “person”. He is also misleading as he wants to love and can have his ears back and be asleep and then jump up towards someone quickly if he thinks there is danger to him or I.

He is stunning to look at with his beautiful black face and ears and brindle coat. He is such a sweet boy, looking for his forever person who can dedicate time every day to working on his reactivity and quirks, training, socialization, and mental and physical activity.
