📚 Natural History
Life Cycle
Cold water temperatures during the winter months are necessary for proper ova development . Spawning takes place in shallow water among weeds, often where willow roots grow exposed in water , also meadows inundated by spring flood . Spawning activity begin just before dawn , to midafternoon . Individual fish spawn 3-10 lots of eggs at intervals of 8-10 days . Also Ref. 2163. Juveniles require high temperature to grow. Individual females spawn with a few males in dense vegetation. Eggs are sticky, attached to water plants or submerged objects .

Trophic Strategy
Inhabit rivers, lakes, ponds and ditches with stagnant or slow-flowing water . Benthopelagic . They live better in cold water. Maximum recorded salinity is 17 ppt , but unable to withstand prolonged exposure above 15 ppt . Goldfish prefer warm waters in lakes and slow flowing rivers . They usually live over soft, muddy river beds, in areas with soft submerged vegetation . Feed on a wide range of food including plants, small crustaceans, insects, and detritus . Feed on plants, insects, and detritus .
