Abstract
Based on the analysis of the morphological variability of gudgeons from six populations in the Ural River basin and comparison of the obtained data with the morphological features of gudgeons in the basins of the Volga, Nura, Amur and Siberian rivers, the Ural gudgeons were assigned to the species Gobio volgensis. A specified and expanded diagnosis of the species is presented. For the Siberian gudgeon G. sibiricus, a lectotype from a sample of syntypes from the Minusinsk channel of the Yenisei River is designated. Based on the analysis of our and literature data, the conclusion has been made about the necessity of molecular genetic studies of local populations of gudgeons in the Kama River basin, primarily in the Chusovaya River; special genetic and morphological studies are also necessary for the species identification of gudgeons from the Nura River.
