This photo is dated circa mid 1920s, which means the Hollywoodland sign was only a year or two old when it was taken. It looks so clean and fresh, doesn’t it, and with so few houses built on the Hollywood hills (the Hollywoodland development took a while to really get going) it stands out so even more clearly against the empty scrubland.
