Christina Milian has nothing but love for Jennifer Lopez

The singer/actress, 41, opened up in an interview with the New York Post's Page Six about co-writing the popular 2001 dance song “Play” and how it went to J.Lo, 54.

“Hands down, she killed it. She’s so good. I love that song,” Milian told the outlet of the track that became a hit for the superstar. “And I couldn’t believe at 19 years old I wrote a song for J.Lo.”

The “AM to PM” artist put an end to any speculation that there’s been a feud between the two artists since the song’s release when the final version kept Milian’s vocals in the background.

“It’s funny when people talk about this being kind of a thing about me singing on the song with Jennifer. I mean, I have background singers on some of my songs,” Milian said. “It’s no different than Michael Jackson having background singers on songs or Britney Spears. This is what music is made of. You want a blend of voices. It makes songs better, to me.”

Milian added that she doesn’t think she needs a “feature credit” on the song, as she’s already credited as a writer and vocalist. “I’m also just so happy that she did it because she’s an icon, she’s amazing,” she said.

The “When You Look at Me” singer also explained that she wrote the song in just 15 minutes one morning after a night out partying while in Sweden at a coveted songwriting camp in the early 2000s.

Milian wrote “AM to PM” during that same period, which she explained to Page Six that she released instead of “Play” because she thought her label would only allow one party track on her self-titled 2001 debut. The song then was given to the “Let’s Get Loud” singer after former Chairman and CEO of Sony Music Tommy Mottola heard it.

“The guy comes in and he hears ‘Play,’ loves it and is like, ‘I want this as [J.Lo’s] single,’” Milian shared. “And the next thing I know, she’s in New York, she’s recording the song and I came in to help rewrite some of the stuff.”

Recently, Milian has starred in movies like Netflix’s Falling Inn Love and become an entrepreneur. The “Dip It Low” singer is also a mother to daughter Violet, 13, whom she shares with ex The-Dream, and sons Isaiah, 3, and Kenna, 2, with husband Matt Pokora.

Jennifer Lopez will soon release her ninth studio album This Is Me… Now — a successor to her 2002 Ben Affleck inspired album This Is Me…Then — will be dropping soon. An official release date has yet to be confirmed, but last year the hitmaker said the album was due out in 2023.

According to a press release that announced the record in 2022, the new project "chronicles the emotional, spiritual and psychological journey that she has taken over the past two decades.”
