Although this soft coral Paralemnalia thyrsoides is generally considered common, it was not frequently encountered in the reefs around Mayotte in the western Indian Ocean.
However, where it did occur, colonies were sometimes abundant.

Paralemnalia thyrsoides is mostly beige in color.

The colonies have a series of a few branched, thickened, asparagus-like lobes arising from a fleshy, encrusting base.
