4 End 2015: km² (31% of the Natura 2000 Network) (latest N2000 barometer, based on the 2015 data, using only GIS approach) PT: Banco Gorringe nearly 23,000 km² ES: Espacio marino del oriente y sur de Lanzarote-Fuerteventura<14,000 km² IE: Codling Fault Zone SAC around 30km² 2016: MT: 9 new sites (SPA and SCI) with aprox 3500 km² UK: Inner Hebrides and the Minches: 13,500km² RO: Canionul Viteaz and Lobul sudic al Câmpului de Phyllophora al lui Zernov. 2 new SCI more than 2222 km² LT: 2 new MBL SCI 430 km² Update (2015 database): over 42,350 km² added with contributions from MS: ES, PT, IE. Update (2016 temporary database): over 19,500 km² added with contribution from MS: MT, LT, RO and UK.

5 Share of marine SPAs and marine SCIs per MS (From Natura 2000 barometer 2015 dataset + marine sites submitted until October 2016) Hatton Bank: bigger than km2 has been taken into account.

7 Seminar (27-29 September, 2016): MARINE ATLANTIC

8 Seminar (27-29 September, 2016): MARINE MACARONESIAN

9 Seminar (27-29 September, 2016): MARINE MEDITERRANEAN

10 Results from the Seminar (27-29 September, 2016): MARINE ATLANTIC
SR: further research is required to identify the most appropriate SCIs for this species / habitat type (research on identifying the most appropriate sites, on clarifying the correspondence of a habitat present to the definition of Annex I habitats, etc. ). SR ref list: the regular occurrence of this species /habitat type is still uncertain and needs to be confirmed

11 Results from the Seminar (27-29 September, 2016): MARINE MACARONESIAN
IN MAJ ES for Submarine structure made by leaking gases is now SR Ref List, since there are no evidences of this HT in the Mac region. Became SUF for ES. The HT Sandbanks which are slightly covered by sea water all the time become SUF due to the addition of the site Espacio marino Lanzarote-Fuerteventura (D).

12 Results from the Seminar (27-29 September, 2016): MARINE MEDITERRANEAN
MT: big work, they submit a new database in April with 3 marine SCI and become sufficient for Tursiops and Caretta caretta. FR become SUF for Alosa fallax and Lampetra fluviatilis. Only IN MAJ for GR: Chelonia mydas and submarine structures made by leaking gases and SI: Tursiops truncatus. In the Mediterranean there are many LIFE projects to search the status and distribution of habitats and species to be able to designated the best areas for the marine features. Eg. SI, CY, ES, HR, etc.

13 Sufficiency of 2016 SCIs proposals per marine region

14 Sufficiency exercise 2016: SCIs proposals per MS
HABITATS For FR the HT submarine structures made by leaking gases was deleted from the Ref List. 1 HT added for PT: Submarine structures made by leaking gases (SR Ref List)

15 Sufficiency exercise 2016: SCIs proposals per MS
SPECIES PT: Caretta caretta was added to PT MATL (SR Ref List)

16 How many marine SAC are in the Marine Natura 2000 Network?

17 How many marine SAC are in the Marine Natura 2000 Network?

18 How many marine SCI should have already been designated as SAC ?
Art. 4.4 Once a site of Community importance has been adopted in accordance with the procedure laid down in paragraph 2, the Member State concerned shall designate that site as a special area of conservation as soon as possible and within six years at most, establishing priorities in the light of the importance of the sites for the maintenance or restoration, at a favourable conservation status, of a natural habitat type in Annex I or a species in Annex II and for the coherence of Natura 2000, and in the light of the threats of degradation or destruction to which those sites are exposed. IN RED SCI PROPOSED BEFORE 2010 IN BLUE SCI PROPOSED AFTER 2010 Just one SCI designated in 2009 for PL.

19 Tursiops truncatus 149 out of 321 lack of MP, have not been designated as SAC yet ie. nearly 46% of site designated for this species do not have a manage plan in place. The situation is particularly problematic in MMED and MBLS. MMAC (PT and ES, both have designated SAC). At MS, the situation is far from ideal for BG, CY, ES, IT, IE, MT and RO. However still ES, FR, PT, part of the UK (inshore elsewhere than Scotland), GR and SI are not SUF for Tursiops

20 Art. 17 results: marine habitats
Marine habitats under Art. 17 are taken into account: 1110, 1120, 1130, 1140, 1160, 1170, 1180, 1650, Dismissing assessments not valid for statistics. In parenthesis the number of assessments.

21 Frequency (%) of pressures with ‘high impact’ reported for habitats

22 Art. 17 results: marine species
Marine habitats under Art. 17 are taken into account. Dismissing assessments not valid for statistics. In parenthesis the number of assessments.

23 Frequency (%) of pressures with ‘high impact’ reported for species
Note: 40% of marine species don’t have any pressures reported (not only ‘high impact’ pressures)

24 SEMINARS LATEST MARINE SEMINARS: MATL, Galway (IE), 2009
MBAL, Sopot (PL), 2009 MBLS, MMAC, MMED, Brindisi (IT), 2010 MATL, MMAC, MMED, Malta, 2016 FUTURE SEMINARS: ?
