Aphyocharax anisitsi is recorded for the first time from the upper Bermejo River, Argentina, in the provinces of Salta and Jujuy. This represents a range extension of the known distribution of approximately 600 km. Also, collection specimens of A. dentatus from this area are cited for first time.

Two new species of Australoheros Říčan and Kullander are described. Australoheros ykeregua sp. nov. is described from the tributaries of the río Uruguay in Misiones province, Argentina. Australoheros angiru sp. nov. is described from the tributaries of the upper rio Uruguai and middle rio Iguaçu in Brazil. The two new species are not closely related, A. ykeregua is the sister species of A. forquilha Říčan and Kullander, while A. angiru is the sister species of A. minuano Říčan and Kullander. The diversity of the genus Australoheros is reviewed using morphological and molecular phylogenetic analyses. These analyses suggest that the described species diversity of the genus in the coastal drainages of SE Brazil is overestimated and that many described species are best undestood as representing cases of intraspecific variation. The distribution patterns of Australoheros species in the Uruguay and Iguazú river drainages point to historical connections between today isolated river drainag...

Apareiodon species from the Rio Tocantins-Araguaia basin, Brazil, were investigat- ed to determine the recognizable species in that basin. Apareiodon machrisi Travas- sos, 1957, the only previously described species reported for the Rio Tocantins- Araguaia basin, is recognized as valid, and three new species inhabiting primarily headwater streams are described (Apareiodon argenteus, Apareiodon cavalcante, and Apareiodon tigrinus). The species are

Herpetology Notes
Silva-Soares et al. 2011- First record of Aplastodiscus arildae Cruz and Peixoto, 1985, from Espirito Santo State, Southeastern of Brazil.Hermann Burmeister usually is known as the first director of the Museum of Natural Sciences in Buenos Aires and/or the person who was asked by president Sarmiento to bring European scientists to Argentina. Two decades before he founded the Córdoba group, formed by Lorentz, Weyenbergh, the Doering brothers and others, and thus assisted in initiating natural sciences in Argentina, he travelled through western and northwestern parts of Argentina during the years 1857 to 1860 (Raffino 2006). After his re-arrival in Germany, he published a report with over 1.000 pages in two volumes, describing nearly every aspect of natural science and cultural life that he had observed during his trip. Although numerous herpetologists, entomologists and ornithologists became aware of Burmeister's new species from their subjects, this work remained unacquainted to almost the entire ichthyological community since the beginning of the 20 th century. In his book 'Reise durch die La Plata-Staaten...
A total of 113 species belonging to 54 genera are recovered from a study of the Maastrichtian and Danian deposits in the Cerro Azul section of the Neuquen Basin, west-central Argentina. The nature of the fauna and aspects of its evolution are discussed.
Check List
Fish fauna from the Ajó river in Campos del Tuyú National Park, province of Buenos Aires, Argentina2009 •
We provide the first list of the ichthyofauna from the Ajó river, a water course situated at the southward border of the Samborombón bay (36°20'12"’ S, 56°54'17" W), a RAMSAR site in Argentina. These results were obtained bi-monthly along two years. Forty-five species belonging to 26 families and 11 orders were identified. This fish fauna is composed by freshwater, euryhaline and marine species. Richest groups were Perciformes and Characiformes, with 10 species each. A single species, Micropogonias furnieri (whitemouth croaker), represented morethan 70 % of the captured specimens, being juvenile individuals only. Remaining species were also represented by juvenile specimens, confirming the importance of this environment as nursery area, particularly for the whitemouth croaker.
