The Blueberry Sea Fan, Acalycigorgia sp. is also referred to as the Blue Gorgonia or Blue Tree coral. Blue is a very unusual coloration for any coral, and this Sea Fan will make a great showpiece or centerpiece to any reef aquarium. The red or orange base color with intense blue polyps differentiates this variety from other sea fans. Underwater epoxy is commonly used to anchor its base to a piece of live rock in the reef aquarium. It is more challenging to maintain this species, as they require supplemental feeding several times per week. The Blueberry Sea Fan is not ideal for beginners and should only be maintained by an experienced aquarist.
Difficulty
The Blueberry Sea Fan is not ideal for beginners and should only be maintained by an experienced aquarist.
Aggressiveness The Blueberry Sea Fan is peaceful, but it should be given adequate space away from neighboring corals or anemones.
Waterflow
They require moderate to high water movement.
Lighting
Since they are not photosynthetic, Blueberry Sea Fan only requires a low level of lighting.
Placement
Place anywhere which provides the required water flow and lighting level.
Diet and Feeding
Blueberry Sea Fans are not photosynthetic. Therefore, they require supplemental feeding. Feed enriched Artemia nauplii, rotifers, dust-sized pellet food, copepods, daphnia, and other similar sized foods. Marine Snow is also a good food source. Stirring the substrate to suspend edible particulates is helpful, along with the presence of fish which can also help nourish it. Feed every other day depending on appearance.
