Fiji Rock is a very light weight rock from the Pacific. It has very gnarled and unique shapes. It is one of the most popular rocks for building reefs due to it's light weight and high capacity for bacteria growth. It has very dark purples and some orange coraline algae growths. It also produces some small sps corals after a few months in an established tank.

Tonga Deep Water


Three types available, Tonga Branch , Tonga Shelf and Tonga Deep Water.

Tonga rock was made famous for it's BRANCH ROCK... it is large branches of mostly Pocillopora, or Porites, or even Acropora, that died, and then were encrusted with coralline algae. They are predominantly reddish and orange, with purple or other color highlights. The branches are usually 11/2 - 2" in diameter, and often "Y" shaped. The branches of this rock are excellent for building layers and shelves in your reef aquarium.This makes for excellent open setups, where waterflow is important.

The second type of Tonga , less common (and less seen), SHELF rock is a large head of table top, or brush Acropora, that has died, and been encrusted with corallines of many colors. The "disks" or "heads" are usually from 8-10" to 14-16" across (some of each in every box), and a couple of inches thick top to bottom. The head is broken off at the base. So you get a thick frisbee shaped acropora head, fully encrusted . It makes excellent platforms on which to place your coral specimens.

The last type of Tonga, DEEP WATER TONGA is perhaps the prettiest rock around now. It is highly multi-colored, mostly purple,but with many other bright colors of coralline algae on it. It is harvested from deep water at the base of the reef-face. It is corals that were broken in storms, that have fallen and were encrusted with coraline over time. Stunningly beautiful!

We have finally found a caribbean rock collector that meets our high standards. This live rock is actually ancient caribbean coral heads that have been reencrusted over with coralline algae, sponges, tunicates, macro algaes, and other interesting invertebrates. The biggest difference between Caribbean Live Rock and Fiji, Tonga or Marshall Island, is that the caribbean rock is more plated or sheets. Not massive round knarley pieces but lots of plated look formations. Some people like this look, some people don't. Caribbean live rock has many open areas due to its plating structure which will enable the aquarium to have better circulation, and a natural appearance. Furthermore, the ease of affixing corals to this type of live rock is a painless task due to the structure of the rock. Hard, Soft and Polyp corals will rest more easily and securely in the open spaces naturally found. Caribbean rock has been used in many aquariums to form a beautiful aquascape, with many open holes and crevices, for marine life to hide.
