Who is the Anubia nana?
The Anubias nana is a very attractive little plant and popular in the aquarium. Indeed, it is pretty, not very demanding as for the lighting or the quality of the water and it is very resistant. It will easily adapt to all types of aquarium. This makes it an ideal plant for beginners.
Another advantage: its small size! The Anubia is perfect for a nano-aquarium or aquascaping. It can also be used in paludarium, where it can be partially emerged (in this case, it could even bloom! Flowering in totally submerged situation is very rare).
Thanks to its stiff and tough leaves, this very resistant plant can be put in aquariums containing red fish, African cichlids or other voracious species in vegetation. It can also serve as a nesting surface for many species.
Planting and maintenance
Planting and maintenance
How to plant and maintain the Anubia nana?
The Anubias Nana will beautifully decorate the foreground of the aquarium or naturally fill your spaces between roots or rocks.
Be careful though, the Anubia grows very slowly (1 to 2 leaves per month). It is therefore quite sensitive to algae. Prefer planting in the shaded areas of your aquarium so that it does not get covered with algae.
You will find very often in stores Anubias attached to roots or rocks. Indeed, this plant does not need to be buried in the substrate to feed. To make your own decoration, simply attach the plant to your support with nylon thread (fishing line) until it is rooted.
If you decide to plant your Anubia in the substrate, never bury the rhizome as this will rot the plant.
When the leaves start to turn yellow, you can cut them to make room for new growth!
This plant does not require any particular Co2 intake.

How to farm the Anubia nana?
As for all Anubias, the reproduction of this plant in the aquarium is done by dividing the rhizome (choose a rhizome already having some small leaves) that you can then plant at least ten centimeters from the mother plant.
