Sometimes called anemone goby or striped goby, the speckled goby is one of the many small gobies that inhabit sandy-muddy areas. Its scientific name is gobius bucchichi, a goby that rarely exceeds 10 centimeters.

It can be recognized mainly by its eyes crossed by a black line which forms a V in front of its short head. Its body is rather white or beige and it is covered with small black points which form more or less marked side lines.

Habitat and behavior

The speckled goby or anemone goby is a species of goby found mainly in the shallow waters of the Mediterranean. It is one of the only fish able to live in contact with sea anemones like the clownfish. It is found not only within the anemones, but also on sandy or muddy bottoms between 1 and 6 meters, although it can occasionally be found deeper.

Opportunistic and omnivorous, the speckled goby feeds on everything that passes within its reach: invertebrates, crustaceans, larvae or fragments of algae...

Fishing for speckled goby

Une pêche facile et amusante
Easy and fun fishing

Abundant fish according to the biotopes, the speckled goby is one of these small fish to fish in a playful way with children for example. It is mainly fished on a fine line with a small hook or a leaded head on which a small piece of worm or a soft lure like a worm is put.

Simply scrape the bottom to raise a light cloud of sand or silt that will attract the many gobies nearby. The hardest part is trying to get the larger specimens to bite before the smaller ones clean your hook.

An easy and fun way to fish with children who want to start fishing in the sea and catch a lot of fish quickly, then have the pleasure of releasing them in good conditions.
