The Schrätzer has a brass yellow, stretched body, head and back show a greenish tone. Another feature of the Schrätzers are its small scales . His mouth is inferior, his gill- covers are spitzauslaufend and covered with a spine. The body is covered with three to four narrow, interrupted dark vertical stripes. The caudal fin is slightly forked and provided with dark rows of dots. He has two connected dorsal fins , with the first fin beginning in front of the belly-fin approach. Schrätzer are usually 15 to 25 cm long, maximum 30 cm. The weight is up to 250 grams.
