Nolina nelsonii

Nolina nelsonii

Howdy!

Hoping you all had a great 4th of July and some extra time to rest.

This week I wanted to feature one of our bigger plants since often times we talk about smaller items for the yards and properties that we work with.  Sometimes you need something BIG and Nolina nelsonii fills that gap!  This mighty Nolina is larger than the rest and most closely resembles our native Nolina parryi.  Native to Mexico, this statuesque plant is very eye catching when they reach the size pictured in the attachments. The plants we’re offering have been field grown for 30 years and they are so much more impressive in person than in photos.   In fact, I remember the first time I witnessed one in person at our ranch property in Cochise. At first sight I was stunned and then jumped out of the car,  ran up and hugged one while asking to have my picture taken with it. What a great moment!!  You have to appreciate what this plant has been through over the past 30 years growing in that extremely dry climate, with drying winds, and cold, sometimes snowy winters.  For me these are simply beautiful.  They can tolerate so many conditions and will only get better with time.  The 6’+ spikes of chartreuse turning to white flowers are not to be missed. Although Nolina nelsonii is a member of the Agavaceae, you can rest easy knowing that this one does not die after flowering.   These impressive 30 year old specimens will only be available for a few more years so it’s time to start planning and working them into projects.  Of course,  if you’re ready now we have them available in 36” and ready for shipment!!  Hooray for goliath Nolinas!

As always, please let me know if you have any questions.

Have a super duper week!

Wendy
