The zebrafish, aka zebra danio (Danio rerio) is a freshwater fish belonging to the minnow family. It's native to the Himalayan region. The male is torpedo-shaped, with gold stripes between the blue stripes; the female has a larger, whitish belly & silver stripes instead of gold.. It can grow to 2.5 in. in length, though it seldom grows larger than 1.6 in. in captivity. Its lifespan in captivity is around 2 to 3 years. In ideal conditions, this may be extended to 5 years..
