Type Locality Ayeyarwaddy River drainage, artificial pond in Toe Gyi village, above Aniskan falls, near Pyin Oo Lwin, on road Mandalay-Hsipae, 21°58'36"N, 96°23'24"E, Manadlay Division, Myanmar.
Synonym(s) Puntius padamya
Etymology Pethia is the generic vernacular name for small cyprinids in Sinhala.

Distribution South East Asia: Myanmar. Known only from the type locality, an artificial pond in Toe Gyi village, situated just above the Anisakan Falls, near Pyin Oo Lwin, on the road Mandalay-Hsipaw, and from the lower Chindwin River.
