Info
Some of you will be wondering why Poecilia latipinna is represented here in the lexicon. As a rule, aquarists only expect to find this fish in freshwater aquariums. However, the broadfin not only inhabits lakes, ponds, streams, rivers and swamps, it can also be found in brackish water.
Some populations even live exclusively in pure seawater, in the coastal waters of the Gulf of Mexico.
However, it should be noted that the animals offered in the specialized trade today are used to pure freshwater and have never come into contact with seawater (hence the degree of difficulty indicated).
However, it is possible to acclimatize these fish very slowly and carefully to seawater. This is easier with wild-caught fish from the sea.
As these fish tend to inhabit coastal marine waters, it would make sense to set up the aquaria accordingly. These fish are unlikely to be found in pure coral reefs.
In terms of size, these fish usually reach a size of between 8-12 cm. Larger specimens are a real exception.
