Ecsenius bicolor (Day 1888), the Bicolor Blenny. To about four inches in length. A very popular marine aquarium fish . . . for peaceful reef systems. The Bicolor Blenny is one of the more popular Blennys available, feeding on Algae, and hiding in little holes in the live rock, lots of Aquarist remark on how cute it is. This species can be kept in reef type tanks or community tanks with non aggressive species. Highly recommended not to mix with other Blennys, as it can often be territorial. May tend to pick at clam mantles and corals if feeling particularly belligerent. |
Maximum Size: the Ecsenius bicolor grows up to 4.5 inches. Minimum Tank Size: The Bicolor Blenny prefers a tank of at least 20 gallons with plenty of places to hide & swim. Diet: The Ecsenius bicolor is a herbivore and likes to eat primarily algae, and sessile Invertebrates. Has been known to pick at Small Polyp Stony Coral polyps, but is not common.. Level of Care: The Bicolor Blenny is a medium maintenance fish. Behavior: The Bicolor Blenny may act peaceful (but may become territorial or aggressive)ly toward other fish. Hardiness: This is a hardy fish. Water Conditions: Keep water quality high (SG 1.020 – 1.025, pH 8.1 – 8.4, Temp. 72 – 78 F). Range: Indo-Pacific, south to Australia, and throughout Micronesia. |
