Hydrangea Tessellations were originally designed by Shuzo Fujimoto in the 1960's, these intricate pieces are made using one single sheet of paper with multiple foldings.
In this blog I'm going to tell you how to fold a simple hydrangea flower.
Start off by creating these valley folds, if you're using patterned paper, fold these on the plain side.
Flip the paper over and then make these valley folds shown in red.
Now make these mountains folds shown in red.
Flatten this to get the next step.
Fold the edges over this like.
Then finally fold these edges over.
These steps can create two layers of a tessellation with a hydrangea flower shown in the top two Hydrangea Flowers. Using these techniques, you can create more complex tessellations multiple layers. These can be used for wall decorations, card making and many more.
