Family Labridae; Wrasse feed on smaller invertebrates, like snails and crabs. a specific feature of this family are the protruding fleshy lips. They can be encountered solitary or in groups. Average size 12cm. In the breeding time males build a nest for females to lay their eggs in to be fertilized. One male can fertilize the eggs of one or two females. This species can be found in the western Atlantic and throughout the Mediterranean Sea to the Black Sea.
